Help for Eating Disorders & More Therapist Marirose Occhiogrosso smiling

Welcome

I am passionate about helping people develop greater empathy for themselves and their struggles in order to learn to cope better and have more fulfilling lives and relationships.

Many coping mechanisms develop in a time of stress or crisis as a “way out of no way” but they are not sustainable strategies for living; they have outlived their usefulness. Having expert support, validation, and a road map to make small changes can lead to bigger shifts and more confidence in one’s ability to manage life.

My strengths are bringing compassion, humor, and deep appreciation for the uniqueness of each person I see. My goals are to have them experience their own beauty and joy and then share that with others.

Experience

My career of 16 years in a large health care system in Southern California has focused intensively on providing therapy for diverse populations. I have helped people recover from eating disorders, compulsive exercising, and chronic disrupted relationships with their body and food.

Eating disorders rarely develop in isolation. For this reason, I have also trained extensively to enable people to find relief and recovery from depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, and work/relational stressors. Those with gender dysphoria and people identifying as LGBTQIA+ may have higher incidences of eating disorder symptoms. I have sensitively explored these intersections with many people. My clients and I work diligently to process the origins of their problems so this insight can be used to make lasting and meaningful change.

My pronouns are she/her/hers.

“On some cellular level, we know our bodies are not something we should apologize for. After all, they are the only way we get to experience this ridiculous and radiant life.”
